Terms of Use
Last updated 11 September 2026
These terms apply to silkexpats.com and the SilkExpats apps (together, “SilkExpats”). By creating an account or using SilkExpats you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information.
1. What SilkExpats is
SilkExpats is a marketplace where employers and agencies advertise jobs in China and job seekers apply for them. We are not an employer or a recruitment agency, we are not a party to any job offer or employment contract, and we do not guarantee that anyone will be hired or that a listing will be filled.
Employers are responsible for their listings and hiring decisions, and for meeting the employment and immigration rules that apply to them, including work permits and visas. Job seekers are responsible for the accuracy of what they put in their resumes.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Give accurate information, keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.
- One person per account. Employer accounts must belong to a real employer or agency, and the person using one must be allowed to act for it.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Delete account.
3. What you post
You keep ownership of what you post — listings, resumes, photos and messages. You give us permission to store it, display it and share it as needed to run SilkExpats: for example, to show your listing publicly or to send your resume to an employer you apply to. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies others have already received and records we must keep (see the Privacy Policy).
You must not post anything that:
- is false or misleading — including fake jobs, invented salaries or impersonating a company;
- discriminates unlawfully, harasses anyone, or is otherwise unlawful;
- asks job seekers to pay to apply, to be interviewed or to be hired;
- contains someone else’s personal information without their permission;
- is spam, or tries to take people off SilkExpats to scam them.
4. Rules for employers
- Advertise only real vacancies you are hiring for, with an honest description and pay.
- Use applicants’ information only to recruit for your own vacancies. Do not sell it, publish it or add people to marketing lists.
- Follow the laws that apply to hiring foreign employees in China.
5. Rules for everyone
- No scraping, bulk downloading or automated access without our written permission.
- No attempts to break into, overload or get around the limits of SilkExpats.
- Treat the people you meet here with respect. Never send money to get a job; report anyone who asks.
6. Premium for employers
Employers can subscribe to a Premium plan — Bronze, Silver or Gold — billed monthly or yearly. What each plan includes (such as the number of live and featured listings, applicants’ contact details and resume search) is shown in the app before you buy.
Buying on iPhone
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- Manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store account settings, or from the Premium screen in the app. Deleting your SilkExpats account does not cancel it.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple’s policies; we cannot issue App Store refunds.
- A move to a higher plan starts straight away. A move to a lower plan, or between monthly and yearly billing, takes effect at your next renewal, as the App Store applies it.
- When a subscription ends, your account returns to the free plan. Listings that are already live stay live, but featured placement beyond the free plan’s allowance is removed, and you cannot publish more listings than your plan allows.
- The SilkExpats app is also licensed to you under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement.
We may change plans, features or prices in future. Price changes to an existing subscription follow the App Store’s rules, which include telling you in advance.
7. Suspension and removal
We may remove content, or suspend or close accounts, that break these terms or put other users at risk. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you why. If we close an account for a serious breach, such as fake listings or fraud, a Premium subscription bought through the App Store is not refunded by us; contact Apple about App Store purchases.
8. No guarantees
SilkExpats is provided “as is”. We work to keep it available and to remove bad actors, but we do not check every listing, employer or candidate, and we cannot promise that they are genuine, accurate or suitable. Make your own checks before you accept an offer, sign a contract or travel.
9. Our liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for lost profits or opportunities, or for what employers, agencies or job seekers do. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for SilkExpats in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using SilkExpats after that, the new terms apply.
